Photo sizes to be posted in your normal forum posts:

The ideal and perfect size for a "Large" photo to be posted on this forum is 1024x768, or 1024x width and any height you like. You can post smaller images than this if you want, it's up to you. The maximum width for a photo to be posted in a forum thread is around 1100x wide, anything wider than that will automatically employ a scroll bar at the bottom of the screen.

Photo competition photo sizes:

The maximum size for monthly photo entries into the Competition should be no more than 1024x pixels wide and any height you like. You can also use smaller sizes than this. The reason for this slight size limitation is so that the winning and runners-up photos can fit into the Portal section correctly without losing part of the photo.

Use photo hosting websites:

Use free or paid photo hosting websites like "Postimages" and "flickr" to host/post your images to this forum. You can also use your favourite photo hosting websites to paste your photo links (BB image code) into your forum posts. It's a good idea to make your photo albums on those sites private viewing only if there's a limited amount of monthly bandwidth allowed, if you go over the limit your linked out photos to forums might not be shown. Always study the terms of service for all free photo web hosting services.. You may have some better ones to recommend, please share them here. Also keep a diary password book of all the sites you belong to:

Here's a couple of links:

1.  PostImage is a very simple site that gives you free image hosting for life with or without creating an account first. Best for: Uploading individual photos to be shared on forum message boards.

2.  A bit fiddly to start with but pretty good once mastered.

3.  Allows 1000 photos a month to be uploaded, it's good for a little bit of extra free storage and is good for amateur photographers.

4. Your images are stored on the site forever (even as an anonymous user without an account) as long as you adhere to the terms of service.

5. Keep your photo albums private to keep your monthly bandwidth allowance low.

My Basic Camera Tips:

To get good photo results try using your camera timer function for a sharper shake-free picture, also use low ISO settings and a tripod. A good tripod to use when taking pictures of Action Man at face level is a Joby Gorillapod, usually sold at Currys and Argos. Other ideal small tripods to consider are the ones that come with cheap table top bird-spotting scopes, they are normally of metal or plastic construction at around 9" - 10" in height. I hope these small tips will help you produce good results.

Basic Photo Editing Tips:

When resizing photos to a smaller size for the web they normally end up looking slightly soft and blurry, to overcome this problem always use the sharpening option in your photo editing software, don't over sharpen the photo too much, only a small amount will do. If you over sharpen the photo it will end up looking too harsh and rough.

Avatar size:

The maximum image size for your Avatar is: 150 pixels wide x 200 pixels in height (150x200) and no more than 64KB in file size. It's ideal to use a photo editor to design your avatar around this size, the image can be uploaded directly from your computer to this site, jpeg or png files are accepted.
